INDIANAPOLIS (May 26, 2026) The Annex Group®, a leading impact housing developer that creates affordable, workforce and purpose-built student housing communities, announces today it has been named to the 2026 Best Places to Work in Indiana list. This is the 21st edition of the program from the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. The Annex Group ranked number 42 in the category of companies with 75 to 249 employees.

“There have been many changes for our team within the last year,” said Kyle Bach, CEO of The Annex Group. “We’ve moved our office headquarters, expanded our portfolio and subsequently grown our team. Anytime an organization grows significantly in a short period of time, there can be growing pains. We have worked diligently to ensure a smooth transition for our team, and this accolade, as it is determined by direct employee feedback, shines a light on the fact that we’ve been able to scale while still being a people-first organization. We’re extremely proud of that.”

In 2025, The Annex Group received an Honorable Mention in the medium company category. The company, which offers employee amenities like a social hub, wellness room, fitness center and outdoor area grilling within its office, has a team of more than 168 with multiple job openings.

The combined scores determined the top companies and final rankings.

This recognition is The Annex Group’s first award win of 2026. In 2025, The Annex Group was recognized across multiple industry rankings and award programs, including NMHC’s Top 25 Developers; MHN’s Top Multifamily Developers (No. 26); the AHF 50 (No. 11); and the Indianapolis Business Journal’s Commercial Developers list (No. 12). The company was also a finalist in two categories in the Midwest Real Estate Awards.

INDIANAPOLIS (May 5, 2026)The Annex Group®, a leading impact housing developer that creates affordable, workforce and purpose-built student housing communities, announces today that Joe Kahre has been hired as Vice President of Technology and Innovation for the company. Kahre, a twenty-year technology leader with a strong history of technology infrastructure experience, was brought on board to oversee the company’s technology platforms and responsible utilization of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI).

“I am thrilled to join The Annex Group and cannot wait to see what my team is going to achieve together,” said Kahre. "My role is to make sure the technology decisions we make are responsible, sustainable and continue to support the company's mission and growth. That means evaluating every option with clear eyes. AI is absolutely part of that evaluation, and I see real potential for it to have a deep impact on how we operate, making us more efficient and enabling better-informed decisions.”

The Annex Group has experienced substantial growth in recent years, with six affordable housing projects being awarded in 2025 with more anticipated for later this year. MURFREESBORO (April 28, 2026) – Today The Annex Group®, a leading impact housing developer that creates affordable, workforce and purpose-built student housing communities, is excited to announce its participation in Middle Tennessee State University’s (MTSU) groundbreaking event for Womack Commons, a new student housing community on the university’s Murfreesboro campus. The event was hosted on April 8th and marked the official groundbreaking milestone as construction continues to move forward.

MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee said that he looks forward to working with The Annex Group to bring forward the institution’s vision for a new student housing community. "In a time of constrained public resources and evolving campus needs, public private partnerships allow us to do more, do it better, and do it faster,” he said. "These partnerships are not simply a trend in higher education; they are a strategic necessity."

The Annex Group was named developer on the project after securing MTSU’s first student housing public private partnership (P3) last year. The Annex Group is also the general contractor, facility manager and asset manager for the community. MTSU will provide residence life, leasing and assignments to provide a seamless experience for students. Raymond James was underwriter for the bond offering, and BAM was the bond issuer.

“We are excited to see construction begin on this project that has been a true joint partnership between MTSU, The Annex Group and many others,” said Jason Taylor, Managing Partner, Public Private Partnerships (P3) for The Annex Group. “Our plans for this community were created with MTSU’s goals for its students in mind, and focus on affordability, wellness and student success. We are grateful to collaborate with the University and our project partners to create a transformational addition to the campus.”

Plans for Womack Commons include 554 beds of semi-suite and suite-style living units in a combination of private and shared bedrooms. Located at the corner of Homecoming Drive and Blue Raider Circle, the new residential community will act as a vibrant gateway to campus connecting to adjacent academic, recreation, parking and a future residential village. Designed by Smith Gee Studios and SCB, the project will include a staffed front desk, entry and floor lounges, community kitchen, laundry room, private and small group study spaces, landscaped courtyard, and MTSU residence life offices. The new development will replace the aging Womack Lane Apartments, which were built nearly five decades ago with a capacity of 250 residents.

Womack Commons is expected to be completed in the summer of 2027 ahead of the fall semester.

INDIANAPOLIS (April 14, 2026) – The Annex Group®, a leading impact housing developer that creates affordable, workforce and purpose-built student housing communities, in partnership with Opportunity Home San Antonio and the City of San Antonio Neighborhood & Housing Services Department (NHSD), announces groundbreaking plans for Central at Commerce, a new affordable housing community coming to San Antonio, Texas. Located at 1231 E. Commerce St., 78205, Central at Commerce will offer 279 one, two and three-bedroom units to households earning up to 70 percent of the area median income (AMI). “San Antonio is a key expansion market for us, and we couldn’t have asked for a better entry point,” said Ryan Clark, Senior Vice President of Development for The Annex Group. “We are proud to complement the city’s redevelopment efforts by securing an amenity-rich location downtown, where the demand for high-quality affordable housing far outpaces supply. A project of this scale would not have been possible without critical financial support from the City of San Antonio Neighborhood and Housing Services Department (NHSD). With the nearby Spurs entertainment district and mass transit expansion moving forward, we are committed to delivering the essential housing infrastructure that allows residents to fully participate in downtown’s revitalization.”

Central at Commerce will feature expansive amenities, including a swimming pool, community center, business center, playground, fitness center and courtyard. The seven-story building will be conveniently located close to downtown and within walking distance of public transportation, parks, groceries and schools.

“A property of this size that brings more than 250 units to the market is no small feat,” said Joy Skidmore, Development Consultant for The Annex Group. “Without committed, passionate partners, it wouldn’t be possible to create such an expansive, impactful community. Partners on the project include Evolve Architects, CPH Structural Engineering, Nichols Engineering, Pape-Dawson, Raba Kistner, August Mack Environmental, US-Ecologic, Structure Development, Opportunity Home San Antonio, Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust, City of San Antonio, Argent Institutional Trust Company as Trustee, Impact Housing Indiana and Haven for Hope.

The financing for the Central at Commerce project was a collaborative achievement, made possible by the coordinated support of several key partners. CREA provided a significant foundation for the development, contributing over $36 million in federal equity alongside more than $200,000 in solar credits. Furthering this momentum, the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) allocated 4 percent tax credits and $50 million in tax-exempt bonds. Local investment was equally vital, with the City of San Antonio’s Neighborhood and Housing Services Department providing $6 million in soft funding, while Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust contributed approximately $37 million in permanent loan financing. Finally, the Opportunity Home team served as an instrumental partner by issuing the bonds and providing over $65 million in construction financing; they will maintain a long-term interest in the project’s success by co-developing within their Las Varas PFC structure.

This is The Annex Group’s first community in San Antonio and Texas.

Hurley, who is a finalist in the real estate, development and construction category, leads The Annex Group’s finance, asset management and accounting efforts in his role as CFO. Hurley is well-versed in the multifamily housing industry, asset management and financial underwriting. MURFREESBORO, TENNESSEE (January 27, 2026) – Today, The Annex Group®, a leading impact housing developer that creates affordable, workforce and purpose-built student housing communities, is excited to announce the successful financial closing for Womack Commons, a $56 million-plus new student housing community at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), clearing the way for construction to begin on the university’s Murfreesboro campus this month.

Financing for the project closed December 23 with the completed sale of $56,535,000 in tax-exempt and taxable bonds issued by the Health & Educational Facilities Board of Rutherford County, Tennessee (HEFB). The State of Tennessee and Madrone-MTSU Student Housing LLC, a subsidiary of Madrone Community Development Foundation (Madrone), have entered into a ground lease agreement as part of the transaction. Raymond James was underwriter for the bond offering, and BAM was the bond issuer.

With completion scheduled for the summer of 2027 ahead of the fall semester, Womack Commons establishes a vibrant gateway to the MTSU campus while diversifying the university’s housing offerings. It is The Annex Group’s second campus housing public-private partnership (P3) development in Tennessee.

The Annex Group was named developer on the project after securing MTSU’s first student housing public private partnership (P3) last year. The Annex Group is also the general contractor, facility manager and asset manager for the community. MTSU will provide residence life, leasing and assignments to provide a seamless experience for students.

Plans for Womack Commons include 554 beds of semi-suite and suite-style living units in a combination of private and shared bedrooms. Located at the corner of Homecoming Drive and Blue Raider Circle, the planned new residential community will act as a vibrant gateway to campus connecting to adjacent academic, recreation, parking and a future residential village. Designed by Smith Gee Studios and SCB, the project will include a staffed front desk, entry and floor lounges, community kitchen, laundry room, private and small group study spaces, landscaped courtyard, and MTSU residence life offices. The new development will replace the aging Womack Lane Apartments, which were built nearly five decades ago with a capacity of 250 residents.

INDIANAPOLIS (January 6, 2025) The Annex Group®, a leading impact housing developer that creates affordable, workforce and purpose-built student housing communities, today announces groundbreaking plans for Central at Columbus Park, a new affordable housing community coming to Omaha, Nebraska. Located at 1031 South 21st St., Central at Columbus Park will be on over an acre of property and offer 156 one, two, three and four-bedroom units to households earning a range of income levels starting at 30 percent of the area median income (AMI). A groundbreaking ceremony will mark the official beginning of construction on the nearly $60 million property. Details include:

A U.S. News & World Report analysis listed Omaha as the nation’s hottest housing market earlier this year. The report noted the city’s low unemployment rate and labor participation rate of nearly 67 percent compared to the national rate of just over 62 percent among the reasons for its top ranking. According to market research The Annex Group had conducted in preparation for this project, more than 61 percent of households are renters in this area.

“Central at Columbus Park will be an eye-catching community that will enhance the neighborhood,” said Rachel Kriech, Director of Development. “The needs of both residents and surrounding neighbors were considered during the planning phases of this project, and we think the community will be truly pleased to welcome Central at Columbus to the neighborhood.”

Central at Columbus Park will feature impressive amenities, including a parking garage, community room, computer room, fitness room, storm shelter and bike storage. There will be grocery shopping, schools, public transportation and recreational amenities a short distance from the community.

The project partners include BVH Architecture, Lange Structural Group, Engineering Technologies Inc., REGA Engineering, Terracon, RMD Group, Wells Fargo, NP Dodge, Nebraska Investment Finance Authority (NIFA), Front Porch Investmentsand the City of Omaha.

“Central at Columbus Park brings urgently needed affordable homes to a growing part of Omaha,” said Jody Holston, Front Porch Investments Executive Director. “We’re proud to support this project and grateful for the collaboration that made it possible.”

Financing for Central at Columbus Park project was a collaborative effort, successfully drawing on the support of several key partners. Wells Fargo played a significant role by providing over $24 million in federal equity, while their debt team further contributed by acting as both the construction lender and the senior permanent lender, contributing over $42 million and over $24 million, respectively. The Nebraska Investment Finance Authority (NIFA) augmented this funding by allocating four percent tax credits and issuing $28 million in tax-exempt bonds. Furthermore, the City of Omaha provided vital municipal support through the issuance of the tax-exempt bonds and by awarding a 20-year Tax Increment Financing (TIF) package which is intended to offset property taxes throughout the compliance period. Finally, both Front Porch through its Development and Preservation Fund and the State of Nebraska, Department of Economic Development (NDED) Housing Trust Fund provided soft funding, contributing $3 million and $1.8 million in proceeds, respectively. Each partner provided a key role and vital support that was instrumental in bringing the project to fruition.

This is The Annex Group’s fourth affordable housing community located in Nebraska but its first in Omaha. Union at Middle Creek opened in 2024, Union at Antelope Valley opened earlier this year and Central at South Haymarket is currently under construction.
