INDIANAPOLIS (December, 2019) – The Annex Group, LLC, a leading student and affordable housing developer, is proud to announce Chief Financial Officer Sam Hurley was recently selected as the top honoree for the Indianapolis Business Journal’s (IBJ) 2019 CFO of the Year recognition in the Private Companies category.
The IBJ “CFO of the Year” award program recognizes Indiana’s top financial leaders for their outstanding performance amongst public, private and not-for-profit companies. Honorees are judged on the following factors: CFO’s dedication to their organizations’ obligations; their ethical standards; their contributions to their organizations’ overall growth; and their involvement in the community. Hurley was an honoree in the category of private companies with annual revenue of $100 million or less. The selected candidates were honored for their remarkable efforts during the program’s celebration breakfast at the Marriot Indianapolis on Dec. 11.
“I am tremendously honored to be recognized among my fellow CFOs in the state of Indiana,” said Hurley. “I take pride in my work and am eager to continue making great strides in the multifamily sector with The Annex Group that will fullfill our ultimate goal of providing affordable housing in emerging markets.”
As CFO, Hurley has updated the company’s standardized accounting procedures, outlined best practices for programmatic debt and equity investments and sourced financing for affordable housing projects in new and creative ways. He has played a significant role in The Annex Group’s growth and overall impact on communities, financing over $50 million and helping guide two first-of-its-kind transactions – The Annex of Ruston and Union at Crescent – for The Annex Group since joining the team in 2018. Hurley also serves as a licensed CPA in the state of Indiana.
“Over the past 12 months, Sam has grown to become an integral part of The Annex Group team and earned a spot as a key member of our organization,” said The Annex Group CEO Kyle Bach. “Sam’s remarkable memory and ability to think critically has played a pivotal role in The Annex Group’s recent success. Many CFOs work within their box, whereas Sam offers the unique ability to provide insight in all aspects of the development business.”
This recognition is added to a long list of accolades received by The Annex Group and its executive team. Recently, its student housing development, The Annex of Terre Haute located in Terre Haute, Indiana, was named the Best Student Housing Community in the Midwest by the Indiana Apartment Association (IAA). The firm has also been named to IBJ’s Fast 25, a list of the fastest growing companies in Indianapolis, for the past three years, as well as one of the top contractors by Student Housing Business.
