INDIANAPOLIS – Slated to house university students starting in the Fall of 2015, The Annex of Marion is an $8 million apartment development located within walking distance of the campus of The Ohio State University at Marion. Construction on the 192-bed community at 285 University Drive is officially underway by Indianapolis-based student housing developer Annex Student Living.
“We’re very excited to be part of the Marion market,” says Annex Student Living CEO Kyle Bach. “Our goal is to enhance the experience of students who choose commuter-based colleges by offering an amenity-rich, modern, yet affordable housing option that also provides the sense of community and easy access to campus facilities traditionally enjoyed by those attending a residential university.”
The privately-developed project answers the Marion community’s desire for student living options on campus, and will be a draw for students seeking the social and growth opportunities associated with student housing.
“As Marion transitions from a thriving industrial community into one that is more diverse and educated in terms of its business and industry, it will require a very well educated, sophisticated workforce,” says Ohio State Marion Director of Development and Community Relations Dave Claborn. “Ohio State Marion is the entity that can fulfill this need and having The Annex’s student-oriented housing so close to our campus opens up new opportunities for students and makes us a viable option for a wider audience.”
The Annex of Marion will be built in two phases, the first of which will include private bed/bath suites with keyed entries in 96 four-bed/two-bath units that will move-in ready for the 2015 fall semester. The second phase will include 96 two-bed/one-bath units and will be delivered in 2016.
Each unit will be fully furnished including sleek appliances in the kitchen and beds in all bedrooms. In addition to a fitness center on site, The Annex will feature common areas including a clubhouse with kitchen, computer center, study area, social lounge with flat screen TV and laundry facility, which will be delivered in the second building phase. Outdoor amenities will include sand volleyball and cornhole courts and a social area with grills and bike racks.
Lease rates will start around $450 per student per month, with most utilities included. As a financial convenience, Annex offers individual leases. This means each student signs his or her lease and is accountable for paying just their portion of the rent. Roommate matching also will be available.
“The Annex project is a part of that connective tissue that binds the Marion community and Ohio State Marion together,” says Claborn. “We are grateful for the vision and the trust in the Marion community that Annex Student Living has brought to this project.”
