RICHMOND, Ind. – The apartments are nowhere near done, but the developer of housing near Indiana University East and Ivy Tech Community College is ready to give the public a glimpse of the future.
Annex Student Living, an Indianapolis division of Mecca Companies of South Bend, Ind., is hosting an open house from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The development, 66 units of 2- and 4-bedroom apartments that features 216 beds, three buildings and a club house, is located at 3001 W. Cart Road on Richmond’s far north side.
What those attending will see is the completed clubhouse and a model apartment. The clubhouse has a full kitchen, social lounge with flat-screen TV, laundry and fitness rooms and a computer center.
Management will begin taking tenants this week, and occupancy will be available after July 15. Rent runs from $420 to $495 per bed per month.
Construction on the housing buildings is expected to be completed by July 1.
Annex Student Living has built previous student housing projects in Vincennes, Kokomo, South Bend and Columbus in Indiana and Lima and Marion in Ohio.
“The goal is really to enhance college life for small campuses,” said Marcy Robles, director of leasing for Milhaus Management of Indianapolis, which will manage the property.
“What Annex specializes in is making students part of a community. We’re ready for students to come on board and commit and start reserving apartments. We want to let them know that they need to apply as soon as possible,” she said.
There also will be parking for about 220 vehicles, and the developer is planning to build a path from The Annex to the IU East parking lot.
The $8.5 million project started in 2012 but has been delayed because of financing.
